Using your own domain for the portal
Serve your patient portal on your own web address, like app.yourclinic.com, with automatic SSL.
Every clinic gets a built-in portal address: yourclinic.clinicbond.com, or yourclinic.hlpatientportal.com for clinics that joined before the move to clinicbond.com. On plans that include it, you can also serve the portal on your own domain — for example app.yourclinic.com — so patients stay on your brand the whole way. You'll find this under Settings → Custom domain.
Custom domains are included on the Growth and Signature plans. On Starter or the trial, the Custom domain tab shows an upgrade prompt — see the Billing page. Your built-in address always works regardless of plan.
Setting it up (three steps)
1 · Enter your domain
Type the address you want to use (e.g. app.yourclinic.com) and click Show setup steps. We generate the exact DNS records for it.
2 · Add two DNS records
Add the two records we show you at whatever service hosts your domain's DNS. Each has a one-tap copy button. One record points your address at the portal; the other lets us issue your SSL certificate.
We try to auto-detect where your DNS lives (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, and so on) and link you straight to that provider's DNS dashboard and their step-by-step guide. If we can't detect it, pick your provider from the list — or use Email these to your web person to send the records to whoever manages your website.
Using your root domain (like
yourclinic.comwith noapp.in front)? We'll show a note with the right record type to use — follow it exactly, as root domains have an extra rule.
3 · Verify & activate
Once both records are saved, click Verify & activate. DNS changes can take a little while to take effect (usually minutes, occasionally up to an hour), so if it doesn't verify on the first try, wait and click Check again.
What happens automatically
After your records are in place, the platform does the rest on its own:
- requests and installs your SSL certificate (the padlock), and
- builds the secure endpoint that serves your portal on your domain.
It re-checks your DNS every ten minutes, so you don't have to babysit it. The status badges show progress — DNS pending → DNS verified, and SSL pending → SSL active. Until everything is live, patients keep using your built-in address, so there's no downtime.
If it's not working
- "Verification failed — records may not have propagated yet." This is normal right after adding records. Wait a few minutes and click Check again.
- Double-check the record values. A stray space or a missing part of the value is the usual culprit. Re-copy with the copy buttons.
- Not sure where your DNS is? Use Email these to your web person — they'll know exactly what to do with the records.
Removing a custom domain
Click the trash icon next to your domain to disconnect it. Your portal stays available on its built-in address.
